Raipur : The effect of the inclusive and sensitive policies of the Chhattisgarh government is now clearly visible even in the remote forest areas. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and the guidance of Social Welfare Minister Lakshmi Rajwade, concrete steps are being taken across the state towards the empowerment of disabled people. In the same sequence, in the three-day special disabled empowerment camp organized in Sukma district, 401 disabled people were shown a new path to self-reliance by providing modern assistive devices.

In this camp organized from 20th to 22nd February at Shabari Auditorium of Sukma, beneficiaries of Konta, Chhindgarh and Sukma development blocks were identified and necessary equipment was made available to them on the spot. This camp became not just a distribution programme, but a symbol of the state government’s commitment towards social inclusion and a dignified life.

In the camp, various assistive devices including modern “Jaipur Foot”, artificial hand, artificial leg were prepared and distributed by the experts of Bhagwan Mahavir Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Jaipur. When many beneficiaries, who had been walking with the help of crutches for years, received modern artificial limbs, confidence and new hope were clearly visible on their faces.
Equipment like tricycles, wheelchairs, hearing aids, walking sticks and crutches were provided at the camp site itself. The process of quick distribution has also been started by taking measurements for artificial callipers.

Social Welfare Department’s Nodal Officer Sumadhu Teta said that in the camp, applications were also taken for certificates of 213 disabled people, so that they can avail the benefits of other welfare schemes of the state government. This initiative is an important step towards connecting the disabled people with the mainstream of the society.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai wishes that no citizen of the state should be deprived of opportunities due to his physical handicap. Social Welfare Minister Lakshmi Rajwade has also given instructions to implement departmental schemes more effectively by giving priority to the empowerment of disabled people.
This camp of Sukma is a link in the comprehensive campaign of empowerment of disabled people at the state level.
