Raipur : Transport Minister Kedar Kashyap attended the meeting of all state transport ministers held under the chairmanship of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi today. The main focus of the meeting was to reduce road accidents and ensure the safety of common citizens. Gadkari said most of the deaths in road accidents occur due to non-compliance of safety measures. He directed all the states to strictly enforce the use of seat belts by drivers and co-passengers and use of helmets by two-wheeler drivers.
In the meeting, Transport Minister Kashyap gave detailed information to Union Minister Gadkari about the schemes, projects and achievements related to transport operated in Chhattisgarh. On this occasion, Secretary, Transport Department S. Prakash was also present. Strict action against overloading was said to be an important way to reduce road accidents. In the meeting, it was agreed to implement regular checks, technical monitoring, enforcement action and strict penal provisions on overloaded vehicles.
Extensive public awareness campaigns regarding road safety, participation of Road Safety Mitras, and dissemination of traffic rules at the school-college level were also discussed. Apart from this, cashless treatment of persons injured in accidents, compensation system in hit and run cases, new provisions of vehicle safety, and proposed amendments in the Motor Vehicle Act were also discussed.
Target to complete RDTC and DTC buildings on time
Minister Kashyap also informed that as per the intention of the Central Government, the construction of all the approved Regional Driver Training Center (RDTC) and District Transport Center (DTC) buildings will be completed within the stipulated time.
Improvement in technical testing through automated fitness centers
Transport Minister Kashyap said that till now 8 automated fitness centers (Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Ambikapur, Jagdalpur, Korba, Rajnandgaon, Raigarh) are operating in the state. The fitness testing done by machines is transparent and technically accurate. Chhattisgarh ranks second after Gujarat in the operation of these centres. He said that soon new centers will also be established in Janjgir-Champa, Balodabazar, Dhamtari, Mahasamund, Kanker, Dantewada, Sarangarh and Surajpur.
Cashless treatment of persons injured in accidents
Minister Kashyap said that on the initiative of the Central Government, the cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims is being widely publicized. In the meeting, there was a detailed discussion on topics like compensation in hit and run cases, road safety campaign, Road Safety Mitra, selection of Raipur for ‘Zero Casualty District’ to reduce road accidents.
Emphasis on vehicle safety and traffic rules
Newly proposed amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act were also considered in the meeting. Along with this, Nitin Gadkari ji stressed the need for road safety by wearing helmets, wearing seat belts and following traffic rules to prevent overloading of vehicles. It is clear from the plans and proposals presented in the meeting that the government is continuously making efforts to develop a safe, well-organized and modern transportation system.
