Raipur : The foundation of economic empowerment is based on a strong mindset. Strong will, self-confidence and continuous efforts move a person towards success. Women associated with self-help groups of Surajpur district have presented a strong example of self-reliance by putting this thinking into practice. These women are not only becoming empowered themselves, but are also playing an important role in the campaign to provide nutrition to the women and children of the district.
There is both nutrition and empowerment of women
Nutritional food (ready-to-eat or RTE) manufacturing plants are government-run units that produce nutritious, pre-prepared meals for children, pregnant women, and adolescent girls under Anganwadis and other schemes, run by women self-help groups (SHGs), thereby providing both nutrition and empowerment of women, consisting of ingredients such as wheat, pulses, and milk, which are rich in proteins and other nutrients.
Preparation of tasty and nutritious salty porridge and sweet power food
With the aim of providing quality nutrition to pregnant women, lactating mothers and children through Anganwadi centers in the district, a ready-to-eat nutritional food manufacturing plant has been started. 32 women are directly involved in the production of nutritious food in all three plants.

Presently three plants are being successfully operated in Bhaiyathan, Pratappur and Surajpur development blocks. In these three plants, 32 women are directly involved in the manufacturing of nutritious food. Prepared nutritious food is being provided free of cost to pregnant women and children through Anganwadi centres. In this way, women of self-help groups are making an indirect but very important contribution in strengthening maternal and child health. The important thing in this regard is that along with the preparation of nutritious food, the responsibility of its distribution has also been entrusted to women self-help groups.

Through these groups, a total of 430 women are actively working in distributing nutritious food to Anganwadi centres. This scheme has created employment opportunities for women at the local level. These mentally strong women are now becoming financially self-reliant by getting involved in household work as well as livelihood. This initiative will not only definitely prove helpful in improving the nutrition level in the district, but it is also setting an inspiring example in the direction of women empowerment.
