Kolkata. The politics of West Bengal is heating up these days. The controversy has reached its peak after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made allegations against a senior army officer of Fort William. Mamata recently said that officials were working in support of the BJP during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise of voter lists and were using the Fort William command base for political activities.
After this statement, the Eastern Command of the Indian Army appealed to West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose for intervention. According to the information, two army generals met the Governor last week and registered their objection against Mamata’s allegations. Lok Bhawan officials said that the Governor took the matter seriously and brought it to the notice of the concerned officials of the Central Government.
Governor Bose said that first I will personally verify whether the Chief Minister has violated any constitutional rules. If so, I will definitely intervene. Meanwhile, a senior Fort William official confirmed that a meeting took place with the Governor and he assured that the matter will be investigated.
The political atmosphere is already heated in the poll-bound state of Bengal, where allegations and counter-allegations are intensifying between TMC and BJP due to the SIR exercise. On this controversy, BJP Bengal unit President Samik Bhattacharya termed Mamata’s statement as baseless and said that she thinks that Bengal is her personal state. At the same time, Left leader MD Salim termed it as a serious matter and said that the Chief Minister should write a letter to the Defense Minister and bring out the truth of the matter.
