Bhopal : Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that Jal Ganga Enhancement Campaign is not only the environment but also the basis of development. It is also an effort to secure the future of future generations. It is necessary to encourage public participation from state to village level in every activity conducted under the campaign. Exploitation of ground water resources is having an impact on falling ground water level, degradation of ancient water storage structures and decreasing flow of rivers. Everyone will have to work together to improve this situation. The last Jal Ganga Augmentation Campaign in the state has achieved pleasant results. Even in the campaign of the year 2026, we have to make the campaign effective and result-oriented by ensuring the participation of every person. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav was addressing the meeting held at the Ministry on Thursday. Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, Ashok Baranwal, Sanjay Dubey, Neeraj Mandloi, Deepali Rastogi, Shivshekhar Shukla and other officers were present in the meeting. All the district collectors participated virtually. The major achievements of the Jal Ganga Augmentation Campaign for the year 2025 and the action plan for the year 2026 were discussed in the meeting.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav directed to take action against encroachment on the catchment area of ​​water structures. He expressed the need to continuously monitor such activities. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the origin places of the rivers originating from the state will be developed systematically and intensive plantation should be done around them. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav expressed the need to encourage the system of setting up pews in rural and urban areas through individual initiative and community participation. He gave instructions to discourage the use of plastic bottles. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav expressed the need to establish easily available clean cold drinking water at public places as a social responsibility in the society. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the districts which have made better innovations under the Jal Ganga Augmentation Abhiyan should share their efforts with other districts and the districts should exchange such innovations with each other.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that the Minister in-charge should provide leadership to the Jal Ganga Enhancement Campaign at the district level. MPs, MLAs, Panchayats and all representatives of urban bodies should actively participate in the campaign. Voluntary organizations and CSR organizations working at the field level should also be included in public participation related activities. The District Collector, as the nodal officer, should ensure effective monitoring of the implementation of the works. Panchayat and Rural Development Department will be the nodal department and Urban Administration and Development will be the co-nodal department in the campaign. Revenue, Water Resources, Horticulture, Public Health Engineering, Narmada Valley Development, Forest, Jan Abhiyan Parishad, Industries and MSME, Environment, Sanskrit, Women and Child Development, School Education and Agricultural Development and Farmers Welfare departments will participate. Major achievements of the year 2025 under the campaign were also presented in the meeting.

State level campaign will start from March 19

It was told in the meeting that Jal Ganga Augmentation Campaign will be started simultaneously from Varsha Pratipada 19th March. Activities on Vikram Samvat and conservation and promotion of environment and aquatic structures will be conducted in all the districts of the state. Under the campaign, International Water Conference will be organized in Bhopal from 23rd to 24th May, Shipra Parikrama Yatra from 25th to 26th May, Mahadev River Story at Shipra Bank Ujjain on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra on 26th May, Sadanira Samagam will be held at Bharat Bhawan Bhopal from 30th May to 7th June. In this, satellite mapping of agricultural land of the state will be inaugurated. Under the campaign, works were proposed by various departments.

Under the Prime Minister Agricultural Irrigation Scheme, Watershed Development 2.0, 2200 works worth Rs 170 crore for water conservation and promotion will be implemented by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department. The works of 86 thousand 360 farm ponds and 553 Amrit Sarovars costing Rs 2500 crore, started in the year 2025, will be completed. The department will also carry out ground water conservation work and renovation of ancient traditional water storage structures in the work areas of the Single Village Scheme of Jal Jeevan Mission.

Under the campaign, activities will be conducted under Maa Narmada Parikrama Path, Gangotri Green Project and Ek Bagiya Maa Ke Naam Project.

A plan for the revitalization of Betwa, Kshipra and Gambhir rivers will be prepared.

The Urban Development Department will promote 120 water harvesting structures and develop 50 green areas in urban bodies. For the participation of youth, they will be made Amrit Mitra and registered on ‘My Bharat Portal’. The target is to install 4 thousand 130 rainwater harvesting systems in the campaign. The treatment process of 20 drains flowing into rivers will be implemented.

Improvement of rivers, ponds, stepwells, cleaning of drains and plantation on a large scale will also be done by the urban bodies. Various competitions, awareness rallies and IEC activities will be conducted in schools to create environment.

Public Health Engineering Department will conduct activities for recharging groundwater sources of single village tap water schemes, cleanliness and maintenance around drinking water sources.

There is a plan by the Forest Department to carry out ground water conservation work under Aviral Nirmal Narmada and to plant 28 lakh saplings in the rainy season.

To provide water to wild animals, more than 400 water storage structures will be constructed and 189 ponds will be deepened at a cost of Rs 25 crore 10 lakh.

The Women and Child Development Department will conduct activities like setting up rainwater harvesting in Anganwadi centres, presenting exemplary examples of water conservation at the village level and motivating the community by developing Anganwadi centers as water and nutrition model centres. In each Anganwadi centre, Rs 16,000 are sanctioned for rainwater harvesting and Rs 10,000 for nutrition garden.
