To eradicate TB disease, the Central Government is running a TB eradication program, but the increasing number of patients is raising concerns. In Jabalpur district, about 6 lakh people were scanned to identify TB patients, in which more than 22 thousand patients have been identified in the last three years. The health department is treating all of them under its supervision. Although 541 people have died due to TB in these three years, there has been a decline in the number of deaths year after year.

Lungs are affected by TB infection

Doctors say that TB is a completely curable disease, but if there is delay in treatment, it can prove fatal. It is worth noting that TB is an infectious disease, which mainly affects the lungs, but it can also spread to other parts of the body. Jabalpur has been declared a sensitive district in terms of TB. Here the infection is spreading rapidly in rural areas and urban slum areas. This is why people living in clusters in densely populated settlements, hostels, old age homes, low-lying areas and industrial areas have been specifically included for screening. Doctors say that if testing and treatment starts on time, TB can be cured up to 100 percent.

Ignoring the symptoms can be costly

Symptoms of TB such as persistent cough, fever, weight loss and fatigue should not be ignored. According to experts, it is important to take the early signs seriously. The most important thing is that free TB testing and medicines are available in government hospitals. The disease is completely cured by taking medicines on time and regularly, but many times patients stop taking medicines midway and they are not properly tracked, due to which the problem becomes more serious and severe.

Infection increasing due to overcrowding and malnutrition

Actually, TB bacteria spread through air and in crowded areas they easily reach from one person to another. People with poverty, malnutrition and weak immune systems are being most affected by this disease. This is why the Health Department is continuously running awareness campaigns and special surveillance is being maintained in sensitive areas.

Nikshay Mitra is becoming support

Under the TB eradication programme, Nikshay Mitras are also being formed, who are working to provide nutritious food to poor TB patients. For this, the city’s government and central government institutions, social organizations and saints are also participating enthusiastically. Jabalpur tops the entire state in terms of making Nikshay friends. About two and a half thousand Nikshay Mitras are providing food packets to TB patients every month, so that their nutritional level improves and they can recover faster.
