Indore The metro project in the city is now going to enter its most important phase. After the construction of the elevated track, work is now going on rapidly towards realizing the underground corridor. Preparations for putting the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) underground in the airport and municipal corporation areas are in the final stage. It is estimated that the process of tunnel construction will be started from April or May.
Work continues 24 hours at two places
According to Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL), shafts are being prepared in the airport area and a government school complex located near the Municipal Corporation. Work is going on day and night at these places so that the TBM can be safely lowered underground.
Excavation will be done with two TBM machines
According to sources, the tunnel will be built in Indore with the help of two TBM machines. One machine will excavate from the airport in the direction of Bada Ganpati, while the other will proceed from the Municipal Corporation area towards Bada Ganpati. The tunnel will be constructed at a depth of about 40 meters, so that the work can be completed without affecting the traffic in the busy parts of the city.
2290 crore contract and new tender process
MPMRCL has handed over the contract of about Rs 2290 crore to Tata Group and its associate company for the construction of underground metro from High Court to Airport. It has also been decided to make the part from Bengali Square to the High Court underground. For this, a new tender process has been started and survey work is going on in the concerned areas.
The underground track will be 10 kilometers long
At present, construction of elevated track is going on from the airport to Bengali intersection, while the further part will remain underground. According to officials, in future about 10 kilometer long underground track will be built in Indore. With the arrival of TBM machines, tunnel construction will formally gain momentum and the work on the metro project will be further accelerated.
