Raipur : In a geographically diverse country like India, inequalities have often become a challenge in the path of development. Remote villages surrounded by plateau and plain areas have been struggling with the problem of drinking water. But now, due to the ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission of the Central Government and the State Government, clean and safe drinking water is reaching all the houses through taps even in remote and inaccessible areas.

The picture of village Mangamar, located about 53 kilometers from Korba district headquarters, has now changed. In this village with a population of more than 2.5 thousand, a retrofitting scheme has been implemented under the Jal Jeevan Mission at a cost of Rs 1 crore 45 lakh 34 thousand. Under the scheme, a high level water tank of 40 km capacity has been installed. To provide drinking water to every house in the village, tap connections have been provided to 522 houses by laying 3700 meter pipeline.

The problem became worse in summer

Samarin Bai Khandel of Mangamar tells that earlier one had to depend on hand pumps, wells and other sources for drinking water. During summer, the ground water level went down, which increased the water shortage even more. Many times there were long queues to fill water early in the morning. Women had to labor for hours to fetch water along with household chores.

Now tap in every house, routine changed

Now the situation has completely changed after getting the facility of “water to every house” under Jal Jeevan Mission. Tap connection has reached every house and pure drinking water is being supplied regularly. This has not only ended the water crisis but has also brought positive changes in the daily routine of women.

Now women are no longer forced to carry water long distances. She is devoting the remaining time to family, children’s education and other income generating activities. Improvement is also being seen at the health level, because the risk of water-borne diseases has reduced due to clean drinking water.

New stream of development in remote areas

Jal Jeevan Mission has written a new chapter of development in remote villages like Mangamar by bringing drinking water, the basic necessity of life, to every home. Now villagers are getting pure water at home throughout the year. Dependence on hand pumps has ended and Mangamar is free from water crisis. Jal Jeevan Mission is not only making life easier for people, especially women, in remote areas, but is also bringing lasting improvement in the quality of rural life.
