Patna. In five districts of Bihar, mobs attacked four people on suspicion of child theft. These incidents have come to light from Patna, Muzaffarpur, Sheikhpura, Nawada and Katihar districts. In all cases, the victims were safely rescued by the police.
According to the information received, on Friday, a mob held two women hostage in Muzaffarpur district on charges of child theft. It is being told that the women were distributing religious pamphlets when a rumor spread, due to which panic spread in the area. The police immediately intervened, rescued the women and took them to a safe place. The incident took place in Sonbarsa market under Maniyari police station, where the women were mistaken for child lifters. Before the locals could inform the police, a large crowd gathered and threatened to attack them. Meanwhile, as soon as information about the incident was received, the police reached there and took the women into protective custody and are investigating the incident. The second case took place in Patna district, near Umanath temple in Barh police station area, where a man was attacked while he was holding the hand of a child. When interrogated, he said that he was taking the child to his father and had given him chocolate. The matter worsened when hundreds of people gathered and attacked him. When the police arrived, the mob also targeted his car.
The accused has been identified as Bambhole of Bahapar area of Bakhtiyarpur, who is in police custody. Currently the police is investigating. The third incident took place in Shekhpura, in Kamasi village of Town police station area, where a 20-year-old woman was beaten by a mob after she was seen carrying a one-and-a-half year old girl. The girl’s mother raised an alarm, due to which local people gathered and attacked the woman. During this time the police reached the spot and saved the woman from the crowd. At the same time, in Baghi Bardih village of Warsaliganj police station in Nawada district, a woman was attacked in a similar manner on suspicion of child theft. On the other hand, in Katihar district, an elderly woman was beaten by a mob in Haflaganj of Mufassil police station area late on Thursday night. It was said that he was seen roaming in the area, which aroused suspicion. Despite his pleas of innocence, he was assaulted.
