Bhopal. A heated debate broke out on the issue of stray dogs during the Question Hour of the Assembly. The minister’s statement and subsequent comments on Congress MLA Atif Akil’s question created an uproar in the House.

Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya replied, “I have to fight with all the dogs.” He explained that due to weather, malnutrition, breeding season, diseases and children’s sense of security, aggression in dogs increases, leading to incidents of human-dog conflict and dog bites. Kailash Vijayvargiya further said that compared to the increase in population, our number of sterilizations is less, we will try to increase it. To control the number of stray dogs, under the Animal Birth Control Rules 2023, unsterilized dogs are caught by the dark spot team and taken to the sterilization center and released at the original place after the operation.
Sterilization and Rabies Vaccination Statistics
According to the minister, more than 80 thousand dogs have been given anti-rabies injections in Bhopal, while in total about 5 lakh vaccinations have been done. The figures for sterilization were reported as 9291, 18497, 21452 and 21426 respectively, while the figures for rabies vaccination were 20649, 26427 and 26941. Availability of anti-rabies injection was reported to be 5023.
