Dewas 07 February 2026 The action taken by Dewas Municipal Corporation in the last few days in various wards of the city has put the city residents on the verge of huge water crisis. Without any prior information or public notice, the electricity connections of the public tube wells (borings) installed in the localities have been disconnected by the corporation team and starter kits have also been confiscated from there. This action of the Municipal Corporation is a direct violation of Article 21 (Right to Life) of the Indian Constitution, under which access to clean drinking water is the fundamental right of every citizen. M.P. According to the Municipal Corporations Act, 1956, drinking water is an ‘essential service’. It is legally mandatory to provide appropriate alternative arrangements and prior notice before shutting down any essential service.
Has the Municipal Corporation ensured that Narmada water is reaching 100% of the houses smoothly in the wards where boring has been stopped? Under which rule is it justified to close the public water source without providing alternative tap connection? Why are the general public being punished for electricity bill arrears or other technical reasons by keeping them thirsty? If the Municipal Corporation Administration does not restore the connections of these tube wells within 24 hours and does not put the starter back, then a PIL will be filed by the citizens in the Honorable High Court. Also, this “administrative insensitivity” will be complained collectively to the State Human Rights Commission and the Chief Minister Helpline.
