Raigarh: As part of the intensive campaign being run against illegal liquor trade in the district, Jute Mill Police has achieved great success. Under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh, the police seized a pickup vehicle loaded with country and English liquor and arrested an accused. The accused has been sent to jail after being produced in the court.
This action was taken on 3 February. The police team led by police station in-charge Jute Mill Inspector Prashant Rao had received information from an informer that a large consignment of illicit liquor was being transported in a pickup vehicle from the Pusaur-Kodatrai road. As soon as the information was received, the police laid siege and stopped the suspicious vehicle.
During interrogation of the driver, he told his name as Sajit Patel, father Brijlal Patel, age 23 years, resident of village Hardi Yard Roadpara, police station Chandrapur, district Sakti. Upon search, 30 pounds of plain country liquor and 40 pounds of Golden Goa Superior Whiskey were recovered from inside the pickup vehicle. The accused could not present any valid document related to liquor transportation.
Police seized the liquor and the white colored pickup vehicle number CG-06-GP-7520 used in transportation in the presence of witnesses. The total estimated value of the seized Mashrooka is estimated to be around ₹3,07,200. An offense has been registered against the accused in Jutmil police station under Section 34-2, 59-A of the Excise Act. Besides, restrictive action was also taken under Section 170 of the Indian Civil Defense Code.
In this action, the Jutmil police station team played a commendable role under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Soni. SSP Shashi Mohan Singh clearly said that strict action will be taken against illegal liquor and drug trade in the district and no one will be spared in such cases.
