Kolkata. The dispute between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Election Commission regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in West Bengal has increased. Mamata Banerjee accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of being ‘arrogant’ and a ‘liar’, but the Election Commission rejected these allegations outright.

Election Commission claims:

During the meeting, Mamata Banerjee made false allegations, abused, slammed her hand on the table and left the meeting midway.

The Commission said that the rule of law is paramount and strict action will be taken against anyone who takes the law into his own hands.

TMC leaders and MLAs are targeting election officials, there have been incidents of vandalism in ERO offices.

Personal shortcomings:

Officials engaged in voter list revision should be allowed to work without pressure.

BLO’s honorarium was not received in full; Out of Rs 18,000, only Rs 7,000 was given.

The ranks of the returning officers appointed in the State were not as per the requisite rank.

The West Bengal government transferred three voter list supervisors without consulting the commission.

Mamta Banerjee’s statement:

He accused the commission of selectively targeting Bengal.

Said that names of 58 lakh people were removed and they did not get a chance to defend themselves.

Banerjee described the Chief Election Commissioner as ‘arrogant and a liar’ and raised questions on the election process.
