Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan participated in the closing ceremony of the two-day farmers fair organized in Durg district of Chhattisgarh. The objective of this fair organized by Chhattisgarh Progressive Kisan Sangh was to make farming more profitable by connecting farmers with advanced agricultural techniques. Farmers from other states including Chhattisgarh also participated in the program.

108 stalls inspected by e-rickshaw

The Union Minister was given a grand welcome as soon as he reached the fair. After this, he inspected 108 stalls in an e-rickshaw and interacted directly with the farmers to know their problems and experiences. On this occasion, Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, Education Minister Gajendra Yadav and many public representatives were present.

Appreciation of hard work of farmers of Chhattisgarh

In his address, Shivraj Singh Chauhan said that the farmers of Chhattisgarh are very hardworking and farming can be made more profitable by adopting modern technology. He said that today the vegetables and fruits of Chhattisgarh are reaching other states, which is a proof of the hard work of the farmers. The Union Minister also said that India has now become number one in rice production and China is left behind.

Emphasis on alternative farming with paddy

Describing Chhattisgarh as the “paddy bowl”, the Union Minister said that paddy is the identity of the place, but to increase the income of farmers, it is necessary to move towards alternative crops like fruits, flowers and vegetables. He especially praised the alternative farming initiative of the farmers of Khapri and Girhola.

Planted trees to send message of environmental protection

Before the program, Shivraj Singh Chauhan planted saplings in village Girhola, Durg and appealed to the people to plant as many trees as possible. He said that along with farming, environmental protection is also our responsibility.
