DeoriaThe government has issued a show cause notice to Shweta Jaiswal, chairperson of Municipal Council Gaura Barhaj in Deoria, UP, on corruption charges. On the orders of the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Principal Secretary of Urban Development Department, P. Guru Prasad issued this notice. The Speaker has been instructed to give a written reply within 15 days. This action has created panic in the municipal administration. However, the Speaker has denied receiving any notice. BJP leader Amarendra Gupta, BJP councilor Luv Sonkar, Nawab Hussain, Umesh Yadav, Anju Yadav and Draupati Devi complained about the corruption of the municipality on 26 points including giving tenders to favored firms ignoring the rules, buying dustbins at higher prices under the Swachh Bharat Mission, use of municipal vehicles by the Speaker for personal work, illegal recovery from taxi stands, arbitrary tendering of construction work, etc. The investigation committee constituted by the government found 13 points completely correct and 13 points partially correct in the investigation. When corruption was confirmed in the investigation, District Magistrate Divya Mittal wrote to the government for action. After this the Urban Development Ministry gave its approval. The government directed the District Magistrate to serve the notice to the Municipal President. If the government does not find the answer satisfactory, then action like suspension or removal from the post can be taken against them.

Gaura-Barhaj Municipal Council President – Shweta Jaiswal said that till now I have neither received any notice from the government nor have any information about it. If notice is received, it will be replied to. The allegations on which the notice is being discussed are all politically motivated.
