Bhopal. A high level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Director General of Police Kailash Makwana in the conference room of Police Headquarters, Bhopal. The main objective of this meeting was to prepare the outline of a 3-year detailed action plan to completely eradicate the problem of illegal drugs in the state. It was organized in accordance with the instructions given in the meeting of the Apex Committee under the chairmanship of the Union Home and Cooperation Minister.
‘Naxalism has been ended, now we will end narcotics drugs also’
In the meeting, DGP Kailash Makwana said that last year the Madhya Pradesh Police ‘Stay away from drugs is necessary’ awareness campaign has increased a huge awareness among the citizens. He said that during the DG-IG conference held in November 2025, instructions were also given by the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister for awareness and strict action against drugs. DGP said that just as we have eliminated Naxalism from the state four months before the target, now narcotics drugs also have to be eliminated considering it as a big challenge. He clarified that under the instructions given in the meeting of the Union Home Minister on January 09, Madhya Pradesh along with the entire country will work determinedly to achieve the goal of ‘Drug Free India’ for the next three years from April 1, 2026. The DGP also gave instructions to identify the hotspots of Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ratlam, Bhopal, Indore and other districts to keep a close watch on the strategy to destroy the mafia network, to break the supply and demand chain and to take concrete action against the drug trade spreading in other districts. He told to prepare a strong roadmap with the help of Sports and Youth Welfare Department and social organizations and to strictly ban the sale of narcotics near educational institutions. A robust system will also be developed for testing the chemicals used in industries, to ensure that the chemicals are being used only for approved purposes.
Main pillars and strategy of the action plan
The primary goal of this 3-year plan is to break the supply chain, reduce demand, increase the conviction rate of culprits and ultimately establish a drug-free society. For this, the police department will work on the four-pronged strategy of ‘Supply Reduction’, ‘Demand Reduction’, ‘Harm Reduction’ and ‘Coordination’ with other departments.
Achievements and Data of Narcotics Wing (Year 2025)
In the meeting, police action was reviewed through comparative data of previous years.
Registered Case: A total of 4,116 cases were registered under the NDPS Act in the year 2025.
Arrests: A total of 5,275 accused involved in drug trafficking were arrested.
Seizure Details: A total of 64,615 kg of narcotics were seized in the year 2025, of which smack, opium, ganja, charas and dodachura are the major ones.
The Narcotics Wing raided illegally operating clandestine labs in Neemuch in the year 2025 and seized MD drugs worth crores of rupees (including seizure of Rs 30 crore in one case and Rs 3.34 crore in the other). Additionally, 31 grams of cocaine (worth ā¹15.50 lakh) was also recovered from an African girl in Indore.
Destruction of drugs: A total of 1,44,025 kg of seized drugs were destroyed in the year 2025, whose estimated market value was Rs 347 crore.
Property Attachment: To break the economic back of drug smugglers, property worth Rs 301.41 crore was attached under the ‘Safema’ Act in 54 proceedings in the year 2025, in which Mandsaur and Neemuch districts were in the lead.
Preventive Detention: In the year 2025, effective action was taken against habitual criminals in districts like Indore, Ratlam and Neemuch.
Diagnostic Portal: Data of 33,153 criminals of the state has been made available on ‘Nidan Portal’, so that their activities can be closely monitored. This portal was developed in 2022.
