Lucknow/Mathura. In Uttar Pradesh, there will be a blackout in all 75 districts simultaneously on 23 January 2026. On this day, a massive mock drill called ‘Lights Off-Alert On’ will be organized, in which all the lights of homes, offices and public places will have to be switched off as soon as the siren sounds. The exercise is being conducted on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and is aimed at testing preparedness to deal with emergency situations.
In this regard, a high level review meeting was held in the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of Mathura District Magistrate and Civil Defense Controller CP Singh. Officials from police, administration, civil defence, health, fire, electricity departments and municipal bodies participated in the meeting. The administration clarified that this exercise is not being done to spread fear in any way, but to make the common citizens alert, trained and self-reliant in times of disaster.
During the mock drill, blackout will be signaled by sounding a siren, immediately after which the power supply will be temporarily switched off. The main center of this exercise in Mathura will be the refinery complex, where the demonstration will be conducted under strict safety standards. Volunteers of Civil Defense Organization will go to the streets and inform people about reaching safe places and self-defense measures.
As part of the exercise, the fire department will demonstrate modern fire extinguishing equipment, while the health department teams will practice giving first aid to the injured. The police department will handle the responsibility of law and order and crowd control, while the electricity department and the municipal body will ensure arrangements in coordination. The administration has appealed to the general public to cooperate in this mock drill, ignore rumors and follow the prescribed instructions as soon as the siren sounds. This exercise is being considered an important step towards strengthening the disaster management capacity of the state.
