Huge explosion in sponge iron plant, 6 dead, many injured

Balodabazar: A massive blast took place in a sponge iron plant located in Bakulahi village of the district at around 9:30 am on Thursday. The accident occurred when coal was being burnt and rotated in the kiln. The sudden explosion created chaos in the entire plant. So far, 6 people have been confirmed dead in this accident, while many people are said to be seriously injured.

This entire matter is of Bhatapara rural police station area. As soon as information about the blast was received, police, administration and rescue team reached the spot. Relief and rescue operations were carried out swiftly and the injured were immediately admitted to the nearest hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. According to doctors, the condition of some of the injured remains critical.

The administration said that the process of identification of the dead is going on. Initial investigation is suspecting that the explosion may have been caused by a technical fault or excessive pressure in the kiln. However, the exact cause of the accident will be known only after the investigation is completed.

After the incident, the factory premises have been sealed and safety standards are being checked. The administration has said that a detailed investigation will be conducted into the matter and if negligence is found, strict action will be taken against those responsible.
