Bhopal : Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that Madhya Pradesh is moving forward in the field of solar energy and is reducing its dependence on traditional energy resources day by day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set an ambitious target of producing 500 GW (renewable) new and renewable energy by 2030 to bring the country’s carbon footprint to zero by 2070 and to find alternatives to depleting fossil fuels. Madhya Pradesh is contributing with full dedication and commitment in achieving this national goal. There has been an unprecedented 14 percent growth in the field of new and renewable energy in the state in the last 12 years, due to which its share in total energy production has now increased to more than 30 percent.

Chief Minister Dr. Yadav said that Prime Minister Modi, while underlining the important role of Madhya Pradesh in the field of solar energy in the country in the Global Investors Summit held last year in Bhopal, said that the state currently has a power generation capacity of about 31 thousand MW, out of which 30% is green energy. It is a matter of pride for us that Rewa Solar Park of Madhya Pradesh and the country’s largest Omkareshwar Floating Solar Plant are also being mentioned across the country. This has given a new direction to renewable energy production.

Madhya Pradesh is the first state in the country to implement technology agnostic renewable energy policy. In this policy, favorable and flexible opportunities are being provided to investors to promote solar and wind energy, thereby adding a new dimension to the field of energy production. Madhya Pradesh is one of the leading energy surplus states of the country due to its geographical location and abundance of natural resources. The state government is making continuous efforts in the field of new and renewable energy while giving priority to environmental protection and energy self-reliance.

Madhya Pradesh is emerging as a green energy hub. There are currently 5 large solar projects operating in the state, with a total generation capacity of 2.75 gigawatts (2,750 MW). The government plans to increase renewable energy generation capacity to 20 gigawatts (20,000 MW) by 2030. Investment of more than Rs 5.72 lakh crore in renewable energy will provide employment opportunities to more than 1.4 lakh people. Madhya Pradesh government is attracting investment of Rs 5.21 lakh crore in the renewable energy sector, which will create 1.46 lakh jobs. This initiative of the state government will play an important role in achieving India’s ‘Net Zero Carbon target by 2070. Madhya Pradesh is fast becoming the leader of the country in the renewable energy sector and is ready to play a leading role in Self-reliant India and Clean Energy Mission.
