Jamui district is known for faith, mythology and religious heritage. There are many ancient Shiva temples here, whose history is quite mythological. On festivals like Sawan, Mahashivratri and Makar Sankranti, huge crowds of devotees gather in these temples. One of these temples is situated on the top of the mountain.

The famous Giddeshwar temple of Khaira block has a glorious history. Spread over an area of āāabout 3 acres and 88 decimiles, this temple complex was built in the year 1941 by Lala Harinandan Prasad, the then Tehsildar of Maharaj Gidhaur. It is believed that he had found a Shivalinga near Giddeshwar Mountain, which he wanted to take with him. But the same night he had a dream that the temple of Lord Shiva should be built at the same place where Shivalinga was found. After this the temple was constructed. According to another mythological story, during the Ramayana period, the vulture king Jatayu resided on Giddheshwar mountain and at the time of abducting Sita, his battle with Ravana took place here. According to religious beliefs, wishes made with a true heart are fulfilled here and special worship is done in Sawan.
Patneshwar mountain, situated on the banks of Kiul river in Barhat block area on Jhajha main road, is a unique confluence of religious and natural faith. Baba Pataneshwarnath Mahadev is seated on the top of a mountain about 90 feet high. Devotees climb 104 stairs to reach the temple complex. The temple of Mata Parvati is also located here. A grand fair is organized here on the occasion of Sawan and Makar Sankranti. It is believed that by taking bath in Kiul river and worshiping here, all the wishes are fulfilled. According to local people, even leprosy is cured here. A leprosy patient from Odisha was ordered by Baba Baidyanath in his dream to come to Patneshwar Dham and after serving for a month, he was cured of the disease.
Baba Dhaneshwar Nath Temple located on Sikandra Jamui main road of the district headquarters is also a big center of faith. Swayambhu Shivalinga is present in this temple, which is also known as Uplinga of Baba Baidyanath. According to experts, this temple is older than the 13th century. Along with Bihar, devotees from Bengal and Jharkhand also come here for darshan. It is believed that Baba Dhaneshwar Nath fulfills the wishes of all the devotees. However, the maintenance of the temple and the pond located near it is not satisfactory. The pond is on the verge of drying up and only formality is seen in the name of maintenance.
Jhikutiya Mahadev Temple, located in Singarpur, just four kilometers from Jamui district headquarters, is famous for its unique tradition. Even today, in this nearly 300 year old temple, non-Brahmins perform worship as the chief priests. It is believed that Lord Bholenath had given a vision of a beam of light going towards the sky to a local person in his dream. At that time this area was surrounded by dense forests. When people reached there on the instructions of the dream, they found Shivalinga in manifest state. Since then regular worship has been taking place here and this temple is counted among the major Shiva temples of Jamui.
Ravaneshwar Shiv Temple located in Khaira Bazar is also quite famous. This temple was built by the Maharaja of Chandela dynasty and its history is said to be more than a hundred years old. According to local people, this temple has been the center of faith of devotees for years. Special crowd is seen here during Sawan and Mahashivratri. Ravaneshwar Shiv Temple not only holds religious importance but is also associated with the cultural identity of Khaira Bazaar.
