Raipur : With the help of Horticulture Department, progressive farmer Shivram Wake of village Madsa of Geedam development block of Dantewada district has given a new direction to his farming by adopting modern technology. With departmental guidance and technical support, he established a 1000 square meter shednet house in the year 2024-25. In this he started producing improved varieties of Barbatti, which gave him more yield than expected.

Better production at lower costs and saves water

Shade net house is an agricultural structure that uses a mesh net to form a structure that protects the plants from harsh sunlight, pests, and extreme weather, while also allowing essential moisture, air, and sunlight to pass through, creating a favorable micro-environment for crops, especially beneficial for flowers, vegetables, and nursery plants. It is also called a net house or shade house and provides better production at lower costs and saves water.

Shadenet technology got big benefits

Construction of shade net controlled the temperature, provided protection to the crop from pests and also maintained moisture in the soil. Using the drip irrigation method saved water and the plants continued to get proper moisture. Due to these controlled conditions, production increased by 35-40 percent compared to open fields. The green barbatti prepared in the shednet was sold at a good price in the local market, due to which Shivram Wake started getting regular cash income.

Better production even in open fields

After getting success in shednet, Shivram started bean cultivation in 0.20 hectare open area. Quality seedlings, organic fertilizers, trellis method and seasonal irrigation strengthened the crop. As a result, the fruitfulness of beans increased and due to good demand in the market, they got additional income of Rs 15,000 to 20,000 per cycle.

Income increased due to modern farming, became a source of inspiration

His willpower and hard work to adopt new technology made his farming profitable. Now they deliver their vegetables directly to local markets and wholesalers, thereby reducing their dependence on middlemen. A steady increase of about Rs 8-12 thousand was recorded in his monthly income from shednet and vegetable production. Today Shivram Wake has become a source of inspiration for other farmers of the village. With the help of government schemes and technical assistance of the Horticulture Department, he has proved that by adopting modern and scientific farming, farmers can significantly increase their income.
