Raipur : Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY) is a new initiative of the Government of India, which aims to increase agricultural productivity, promote crop diversification, improve irrigation and storage facilities and provide easy credit to farmers by targeting 100 low-productivity agricultural districts of the country. PM Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana and Pulses Self-Reliance Mission will give a new direction to the country’s agriculture. These schemes will not only increase the total agricultural production, but will also provide special benefits to low productivity, backward and districts deprived of irrigation facilities.
Big change in life due to modern technology
Hadma Kodopi, a farmer of village Sameli of Kuakonda development block of Dantewada district, has changed his lifestyle by adopting fish farming. He achieved this success because of the technical assistance received from Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Yojana and Fisheries Department. Many years ago, Kodopi started traditional fish farming in half an acre of his private land. But the increase in income under the scheme and the encouragement to adopt modern technology brought a big change in their lives.
Production increased manifold due to modern technology
After joining the Fisheries Department, he got information about advanced methods, scientific methods and modern technologies. With departmental cooperation, he constructed a pond liner in an area of 0.10 hectare. This technology ensured water conservation, faster growth of fish, prevention of diseases and better quality. As a result production increased manifold.
Annual income of Rs 3 lakh
After getting the benefit of advanced technologies, Kodopi started earning an income of about one lakh rupees every year from his old pond, whereas the pond with liner pond is earning up to two lakh rupees. In this way, he is getting a total annual income of three lakh rupees, which has strengthened the financial condition of his family. Under the scheme, he also got facilities like fishing equipment, ice box, fish seeds etc., which further strengthened his business. Kodopi says that if they had not received timely technical guidance and government schemes, they would not have been able to make so much progress.
Kodopi became a source of inspiration for fish farmers
Today Hadma Kodopi is not only making his family self-reliant, but has also become a source of inspiration for other farmers of the area. Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Yojana and departmental cooperation have proved that scientific use of available resources can bring a big change in the rural economy.
