Open Day 2026 Demonstrates Role of Agriculture in National Development

Open Day 2026 at Sri Sri University demonstrated the vital role of agriculture in national development. The event highlighted how education, innovation, and sustainability drive agricultural progress. Students explored exhibitions on food security, value addition, and environmental solutions. University leaders emphasized agriculture’s contribution to economic growth and ecological balance. Open Day 2026 Highlights Agricultural Education and Innovation at Sri Sri University

Cuttack, 09 Jan 2026: Sri Sri University’s Faculty of Agriculture successfully hosted Open Day 2026, attracting over 570 students and teachers from eight schools across Cuttack. The event aimed to raise awareness about agricultural education, innovation, and career opportunities among young learners.

The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Tej Pratap, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, in the presence of Prof. Anil Kumar Sharma, Executive Registrar, and Prof. S. Kumarswamy, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture. Speaking to the gathering, the dignitaries emphasized the role of agricultural education in food security, sustainable development, and national growth, encouraging students to consider agriculture as a promising career path.

Post-inauguration, participants toured departmental laboratories and exhibition stalls designed by BSc and MSc students under faculty guidance. The Department of Horticulture impressed attendees with displays on Post-Harvest Management and Value Addition of Horticultural Crops, featuring products like RTS beverages, pickles, chips, squashes, and other value-added items. The Commercial Horticulture section showcased innovative products including resin-based key rings, photo frames, scented candles, and seedlings of ornamental and flowering plants, supervised by Dr. Kalyani Pradhan, HoD, Horticulture, along with Dr. Sheetal Mohapatra and Dr Suvrajit Patra, Assistant Professors.

Students from the Department of Environmental Science and Forestry demonstrated models on Urban Green Solutions, Seed Ball Technology, and SDG 15 (Life on Land), highlighting the transformation of Sri Sri University’s campus into a lush green environment. The demonstrations were led by Dr. Sandeep Rout, Assistant Professor (Forestry).

Student representatives Mr. Rakesh Kumar Mallick, Mr. Deepak Kumar Panda, Mr. Asmit Kumar Pati, Ms. Biswarupa Dhal, Ms. Salini Panda, and Mr. Kirti Ketan Jena guided visitors through project models, explaining concepts related to sustainability, environmental conservation, and green campus initiatives.

The event concluded with overwhelmingly positive feedback from participating schools. Students expressed heightened interest in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, and forestry, marking Open Day 2026 as a successful initiative connecting school-level education with higher studies in agriculture, and inspiring the next generation of science-driven, sustainable professionals.
