Raipur : In Bastar district, according to the guidelines of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, paddy is being continuously procured from farmers and effective control is also being established on the sale of illegal paddy. The effect of which was seen today where on the instructions of Collector Haris S, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Bakavand Development Block Manish Verma took major action as part of the ongoing campaign against illegal paddy transportation.
On Monday, during the surprise inspection of the paddy procurement center Karpavand, the administration exposed a big fraud going on in collusion between the trader and the farmer, in which an attempt was being made to procure the trader’s paddy on the farmer’s token. Investigation of the case revealed that the token on which paddy was being sold was in the name of farmer Upendra Bharti’s father Arjun Bharti. The ground reality was that farmer Upendra Bharti was residing in Hyderabad for livelihood and his land was being cultivated by his brother Lakhidhar Bharti. Lakhidhar had harvested 182 quintals of token for his produce, but the actual production in the field was only 100 quintals. Businessman Rajesh Gupta conspired to take advantage of the difference of 80 quintals left in tokens. The businessman got the paddy loaded in his two vehicle numbers CG 17 KY 7204 and CG 17 KJ 9389 from Mandi Karpavand itself and handed over a photocopy of Upendra Bharti’s token to the drivers and sent them to the procurement centre.
When the administration team that reached the spot interrogated them strictly, the driver and the farmer’s brother accepted the entire truth. After his confession, the SDM took immediate action and seized both the vehicles loaded with illegal paddy and handed them over to Karpavand police station for further action.
