Uddhav and Raj Thackeray came together, Congress congratulated… but will adopt the strategy of Ekala Chalo Re

Mumbai The politics of Maharashtra has come to an interesting turn. At the same time, this statement of Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar makes it clear that the Congress alliance is trying to strike a fine balance between religion and the strength of the grassroots organization.
In fact, Congress has welcomed the possible political agreement between Uddhav and Raj Thackeray. Wadettiwar has congratulated it by calling it family unity, but has also drawn a Lakshman Rekha. Congress is not in favor of any formal alliance with Maharashtra Navnimarna Sena (MNS). As always, his priority will remain with Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar’s NCP.
Congress leader Wadettiwar has made it clear that at the local level Congress will adopt the strategy of ‘Ekla Chalo Re’. The logic behind this is that Congress has emerged as the largest party in the recent city council elections. Local workers believe that fighting on one’s own increases the party’s base. Congress claims that its performance in terms of councilor seats and mayor posts has been better than its allies. At the same time, Congress is now seen playing the Marathi card aggressively. Wadettiwar echoing Uddhav Thackeray said that Marathi language and people’s rights are being encroached upon in Mumbai. Efforts are being made to weaken Mumbai, which Congress will oppose.
Wadettiwar’s statement is not an indication of any rift within the MVA, but of strategic autonomy. The Congress wants to send the message that it is loyal to the alliance at the state level, but does not want to dilute its strength in local bodies by sharing it with anyone.
