Sea: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has recently fixed the date for the arrival of cheetahs in Veerangana Rani Durgavati (Nauradehi) Tiger Reserve, the third home of African leopards during their stay in Khajuraho. The Chief Minister has announced that cheetahs will reach Nauradehi in the month of July. However, this decision was taken after the visit of officials of Wildlife Institute of India and Cheetah Project in April 2025. During this visit, officials were instructed to prepare Nauradehi Tiger Reserve as the third home of cheetahs.
At the same time, the government had also released a fund of Rs 5 crore 20 lakh for the preparations to settle the leopards in Nauradehi, but after the announcement of the date by the Chief Minister, now the preparations have intensified. The work of the first phase is to be completed by March 2026. At the same time, the deadline to complete the next phase of work has been fixed till May 2026.
Chief Minister announced the arrival of cheetahs in Nauradehi
Recently, the cabinet meeting of Madhya Pradesh government was held in the world tourist destination Khajuraho. This cabinet meeting was held keeping Bundelkhand at the center. In this cabinet meeting, many important schemes for the development of Bundelkhand were approved. In the same meeting, it was decided that cheetahs would reach Nauradehi Tiger Reserve, the third home of African leopards, in July 2026.
Cheetah Project officials and experts from Indian Wildlife Institute visited Nauradehi Tiger Reserve at the end of April 2025. During this time, instructions were given to the Nauradehi Tiger Reserve management regarding all the necessary work to be done to settle the leopards. On the basis of which a proposal was made and sent to the state government.
State government released the first installment
After the Tiger Reserve Management sent a proposal for the work necessary to settle the cheetah in Nauradehi Tiger Reserve, the state government has released the first installment of Rs 5 crore 20 lakh for the construction works. Under this, apart from soft release boma, 4 quarantine boma, 20 km long fencing, ponds and grasslands will be developed in the next phase. Tenders have been issued for the construction work to be done in the first phase and the agency has been decided.

- Soft Release Boma- 4 SR Bomas will be built in 100 hectares each.
- Quarantine Boma – 4 quarantine bomas will be built in 50 hectares each.
- Fencing – The work of fencing about 20 km has also started.
New deadline after Chief Minister’s announcement
Nauradehi Tiger Reserve Management Deputy Director Dr. AA Ansari Said, “Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced the arrival of cheetahs in Khajuraho and Nauradehi. 3 to 4 cheetahs will come to Nauradehi in the month of July. In view of its preparations, Cheetah Project officials from Forest Headquarters Bhopal and Kuno have visited and given necessary instructions regarding the preparations.
However, we have already started preparations and the major works will be completed by March 2026. Apart from this, the work on developing water sources will start in the summer season and will be completed by May 2026. So that when it rains, water comes into the water source, as far as developing grasslands is concerned, displacement is taking place. Grasslands will be developed there. The work of developing grasslands will be done in the rainy season. Well, we already have huge grasslands here.”
