Raipur : 19 year old Nandkumar Patel, resident of village Murli Tehsil Pali District Korba, who was seriously injured in a road accident, was recently brought to SIMS Hospital for treatment. Investigation revealed that all the bones of the young man’s right side face were shattered. The face was completely disfigured. Therefore, CT scan of the face was done for the treatment of the patient. After doing all the necessary blood tests and CT scan, it was decided to operate the patient, because due to excessive bleeding during the accident, blood was given during the operation also.
Due to this operation being very complex, it lasted for 6 to 7 hours. The special thing about this operation is that keeping in mind the face of the patient, an incision was made in the head which is called hemicoronal incision, the second incision was made from inside the eye. The special thing about this surgery is that not a single incision was made on the face, due to which the young man’s face is not disfigured and it will help in living a normal life. This is a new method for joining bones in which there is not a single incision mark on the face. To join these broken bones, 10 plates and 35 screws had to be used so that the patient’s bones could be established in their correct place.
To make this operation successful, a team of doctors from Dentistry Department, Anesthesia Department and Radiology Department was formed. Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, while appreciating this operation, has praised the work of the Dean, Superintendent and all the doctors of Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences SIMS and encouraged them.
