Raipur : Sarpanches of various Gram Panchayats from Bastar division today visited the newly constructed Chhattisgarh Assembly building and saw closely the functioning of the Assembly and the democratic processes. On this occasion, Sarpanches also met Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma. To instill confidence in democracy among the people of Bastar, on the initiative of Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, Sarpanches representing various villages of Bastar division were taken on a tour of the new assembly building.

During this, the Sarpanches were given detailed information about the proceedings of the House, question hour, discussion and decision process. This experience was extremely inspiring for the public representatives who strengthened democracy at the village level. The Deputy Chief Minister had a detailed discussion with them on their experiences in which the Sarpanches said that seeing the functioning of the Assembly directly has given them a better understanding of public service and governance. The way every problem and topic is discussed in a positive manner from both sides is commendable. It seems that our representatives put forward ideas and issues for every problem of ours.

While interacting with the Sarpanches, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said that Gram Panchayats are the cornerstone of democracy and the role of Sarpanches is very important in the successful implementation of rural development schemes. He reiterated the commitment of the state government towards the development of Bastar division, public welfare schemes and panchayat empowerment.

Expressing gratitude to the State Government and the Deputy Chief Minister for this opportunity, the Sarpanches said that such experiences will inspire them to work with better leadership and accountability in their respective villages.
