Raipur : The National Highway connecting the capital Raipur to the judiciary Bilaspur is one of the most important and busy highways of the state. This highway is the main axis of commercial, industrial and socio-economic activities of the state. Keeping in mind the convenience, accessibility and safety of the passengers, regular and planned works are being carried out for its maintenance by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

In the past years, continuous maintenance and improvement work has been done by NHAI on Raipur-Bilaspur Highway. To maintain the quality of the road despite heavy traffic, patchwork, drainage cleaning and road marking work is being done regularly. Due to these works, the road surface remains better and the passengers experience safe and smooth travel. NHAI also conducts technical survey of roads from time to time through its own consultant investigation team. Necessary maintenance works are carried out based on the suggestions of the inspection team. In the year 2024-25, panel replacement at 2136 places was suggested by the consultant team, which was completed on time. Even in the current financial year 2025-26, replacement of about 1520 panels has been done at 3616 places. Replacement work of other panels is also in progress. A new tender has also been issued on ‘Risk and Cost’ terms for better maintenance of the road.

Effort to make the highway cattle free

Keeping the safety of passengers on Raipur-Bilaspur Highway as the top priority, work is being done as per the instructions of the Honorable Supreme Court. To prevent road accidents caused by cattle, 20 places have been identified and improvement work is being done. Crash barriers have been installed at marked places to prevent the entry of cattle on the road. Along with these, solar lighting, solar blinkers, transfer bar marking and warning indicator boards are being installed on the highway. NHAI is continuously working towards making accident prone areas safe.

Underpass and service lane construction in black spots

11 black spots (highly accident prone areas) have been identified on the Raipur-Bilaspur National Highway. Construction work of underpasses and service roads is being done at these places for safe traffic and uninterrupted travel.

Record plantation made a fascinating journey

Special emphasis is being laid on developing Raipur-Bilaspur Highway as a ‘Green Corridor’. So far this year, 19 thousand 286 saplings have been planted on this road. Under the median plantation, plants like Tikoma, Bougainvillea and Gulmohar have been planted, which enhance the beauty of the highway. Shady trees like Neem, Kachnar, Amaltash, Peepal and Banyan have been planted on the roadside.

Health camp at toll plaza

Keeping in mind the health of road users, NHAI also organizes people-centric activities from time to time. Health camps are organized for drivers and passengers at toll plazas, where facilities like free eye checkup and blood pressure check up as well as general health counseling are provided.
