The work done by progressive cattle rearer and farmer Kirtan Nishad of village Semra B of Kurud development block of Dhamtari district in the direction of environmental protection, livestock welfare and sustainable agriculture has emerged as a remarkable government success story. Due to his visionary thinking and conscious efforts, Para (crop residue) spread over an area of about 50 acres was safely collected in his Bhatha, thereby effectively stopping the harmful tradition of stubble burning. While stubble burning causes air pollution, reduction in soil fertility and adverse effects on public health, this initiative of Kirtan Nishad has presented a practical and sustainable solution to all these problems. Their efforts reduced emissions of smoke and toxic gases into the atmosphere, providing the benefits of clean air to the citizens of the area. Improvement in nutritional level of animals
