New Delhi. There are chances of severe cold across the country from next week. The first major western disturbance of this winter will reach the Himalayan states on December 17. Due to its effect, there is a possibility of good snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh between 18th and 20th December. On 21st and 22nd December, the temperature will drop rapidly as soon as the clouds disappear from the mountains. The temperature may go down by 5 to 6 degrees below normal. Cold winds blowing from the north will reach UP, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Central India. Due to this, the cold will increase significantly in the plains.
Here, due to Western Disturbance in Rajasthan, the effect of winter has reduced. The minimum temperature has increased by 2 to 3 degrees. There is no cold wave alert in Madhya Pradesh for the next 3 days. However, the mercury is continuously falling. Kalyanpur of Shahdol is the coldest. The temperature here was 4.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday night. On the other hand, the cold has increased due to active Western Disturbance in Himachal Pradesh. There is forecast of snowfall in the mountains today. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain and snowfall in Uttarkashi, Chamoli and Pithoragarh of Uttarakhand, due to which the mercury may fall further by 2-3 degrees Celsius.
