Raipur : The district administration has taken strict action against illegal mineral excavation, transportation and storage in Janjgir-Champa district. Under the direction of the Collector, Mineral Department and Flying Squad team conducted surprise inspection campaign in Bamhnidih, Pucheli, Birra, Kansada, Hathnevra and Pithampur areas.
During the operation, five vehicles involved in illegal transportation—one tractor from village Pucheli, one highway from Pithampur, one tractor from Kansada and two highways from Bamhanidih area—were seized. All the vehicles have been kept in police protected centers and respective police stations for security.
District Mineral Officer Shri Anil Kumar Sahu informed that till now a total of 76 cases have been registered against illegal activities in the district. These include 66 cases of illegal transportation, 6 illegal excavation and 4 illegal storage cases. In these cases, a total penalty amount of Rs 24,65,550 has been collected and deposited under the mineral head.
Strict action will be taken against persons involved in illegal mining under Sections 21 to 23(b) of the Mining and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957. District Mineral Officer said that the process of canceling the driving licenses of the drivers of the seized vehicles has been started. In case of recurrence, court complaints will be filed in related cases.
On the instructions of the Collector, continuous patrolling and investigation is being done by the Mineral Staff and the District Level Task Force to prevent illegal mining in the district. The administration has made it clear that illegal mining will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
